OpenOffice.org là tên của một phần mềm văn phòng tự do (và miễn phí) bao gồm :
- một phần mềm soạn thảo văn bản (OOo Writer)
- một phần mềm tính toán bảng tính (OOo Calc)
- một phần mềm trình bày (OOo Impress)
- một phần mềm để vẽ (OOo Draw)
Đặc biệt, tuy rằng OpenOffice.org có định dạng tập tin riêng, theo chuẩn mở XML, nhưng nó còn đọc được các tập tin đã tạo bởi Microsoft Office (.doc, .xls, .ppt) và xuất khẩu tập tin của nó sang định dạng MS Office. Thêm nữa OpenOffice.org cho phép tạo các tập tin thẹo dạng PDF dể gửi thông tin.
Phiên bản gần đây nhất là 2.0.3 (phiên bản 2.0 đã ra trong tháng 10/2005) sẽ thêm các chức năng tạo và quản trị các cơ sở dữ liệu. Việc tiếng Việt hóa OpenOffice.org đang được hoàn chỉnh và đã có trang tiếng Việt cho dự án bằng tiếng Việt tại đây. Nếu bạn cài Ubuntu “Dapper Drake” 6.06 LTS (http://www.ubuntu.com/) và chọn môi trường làm việc bằng tiếng Việt, bạn sẽ có OpenOffice.org đã địa phương hóa. Bản Hacao Linux Office VN 2.01 (http://hacao.com/), dựa vào Puppy Linux (http://www.puppylinux.org/) có cài sẵn OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 bằng tiếng Việt.

OpenOffice.org is the name of a free productivity software suite, derived from Sun’s Star Office suite.
It has the same capabilities as the one of Microsoft Office and it is free to use and distribute. It includes, among others :
- a word processing software (Writer),
- a spreadsheet (Calc)
- a presentation software (Impress).
In the newest version 2.0 (scheduled to be released in July 2005), there will be database access capabilities.

Problem with 1.9m104 on Debian GNU/Linux
MS core fonts are needed to fix the problem. Disable Albany font if there is one.
